{"id":4472,"date":"2019-02-27T20:30:43","date_gmt":"2019-02-27T12:30:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/xichuanpoetry.com\/?p=4472"},"modified":"2019-02-25T10:59:36","modified_gmt":"2019-02-25T02:59:36","slug":"xi-chuan-wins-swedens-cikada-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/xichuanpoetry.com\/?p=4472","title":{"rendered":"Xi Chuan wins Sweden&#8217;s Cikada Prize"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/si.se\/app\/uploads\/2018\/12\/cikada.jpg?w=584&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cikada Prize 2018 is awarded to the Chinese poet Xi Chuan!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Founded in 2004 to commemorate the 100th birthday of Swedish poet and Nobel laureate Harry Martinson, the Cikada Prize is given to East Asian poets whose work  \u201cdefend the inviolability of life.\u201d They write:  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>This year\u2019s winner is<em> Xi Chuan<\/em> (official name Liu Jun), poet, essayist, translator, born in the city of Xuzhou, Jiangsu province, in 1963. <em>Xi Chuan<\/em>  studied English literature at Beijing University from 1981 to 1985, and  was a visiting scholar to the International Writing Program of the  University of Iowa in 2002, and Orion Scholar to the University of  Victoria, Canada in 2009.
